Compressed air leaks: an overlooked problem

In industry, optimizing efficiency and minimizing costs are primary objectives. While many companies focus on improving production processes, one often overlooked area that can lead to significant savings is the condition of compressed air equipment and lines. Air leaks can unknowingly consume resources, increase energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Air leaks place a significant financial burden on industry. These seemingly insignificant leaks, which are often overlooked, can accumulate into substantial costs over time. Analyzing efficiency gives companies a deeper understanding of the actual financial impact of air leaks on the business. Factors to consider include increasing energy consumption, wasted resources, rising maintenance costs and reduced equipment performance.

Air leaks act as insidious energy drains, consuming resources and reducing the overall efficiency of the system. A small leak opening of just a few millimeters can cause considerable energy waste annually. This inefficiency affects not only operating costs but also the productivity of the entire system. The consequences of air leaks extend beyond energy waste to a broader, practical level. Leaks cause compressors to run unnecessarily, leading to increased wear and tear.

Leaks can be searched for by listening, feeling for them or using leak detection fluids. However, it is much more effective to use a modern ultrasonic device to detect leaks. Honestly speaking, no one’s sense of hearing can actually detect small leaks in a factory environment, nor is it as convenient to inspect lines from all sides by feeling for them as it is with a camera.

If you would like to learn more about how compressed air leaks are detected using modern equipment, you can send us a message. We provide compressed air leak mapping as a service or, if necessary, you can obtain the equipment from us to carry out inspections yourself. When the mapping is performed as a service, we mark the leak points with a sticker like the one shown in the image or with a hanging tag at the correct location. This way, the leak points remain clearly visible for repairs.

We use the most advanced acoustic camera on the market, Visionome – Audinos Elite Ex, which is also suitable for use in EX areas.
